Book Arts - Create a Book

In the first of two book arts classes offered this Spring, participants will learn to make compact bound journals that can be personalized and adapted to a multitude of uses: journaling, sketching, note-taking, collaging, record-keeping, or unique art pieces! In this class, students will create a classic, hard-cover, cloth-bound pamphlet with a single signature and a double-signature (more pages) pamphlet with a paper cover developed and ornamented to suit your fancy. All basic materials will be provided, but feel free to bring papers or artwork (like a beautiful linocut!) you would like to incorporate into your books.

Jane Whedbee has been an artist and an educator for 40 years. With a BFA from the School of the Art Institute, she taught at Columbia College, Chicago, the Gallery 37 program of the City of Chicago, the Textile Arts Centre, the Weaving Workshop, and numerous other programs around the city of Chicago. More recently she has been teaching for the Center for Urban and Regional Excellence at Indiana University Northwest, as well as for the MBACD. Her special areas are textiles and book arts.
