Yoga starts with ahimsa. Ahimsa, or non-violence, is the first yama, the first of the eight limbs of
yoga. Ahimsa was an essential component of Gandhi’s satyagraha, or truth-force, to liberate
India from the British. This, in turn, influenced Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights
movement. The workshop begins with a lecture on the history of ahimsa and how it can work in our daily lives.
The workshop, taught by Mary Shons, includes a lecture followed by an ahimsa-themed yoga practice.
$30, or purchase all four yoga workshops for $100.
